Anatomy of a Literary
Journal
When we released the inaugural issue of
Paradigm in January 2007, our goal was to provide a vehicle for talented
(yet unheard) creative voices to be acknowledged. Our meager hope was that we
would publish a respectable journal that a few people, outside of our personal
circle, would enjoy reading.
As we approached the release of our second
issue, it was clear that Paradigm had struck a chord with the art and literary
community. The amount of positive feedback—as well as the number of notable
contributions from new and established artists to our first two issues—was proof
of our growth and validation of our vision for Paradigm.
As we move forward, we continue to
stay true to our core goals. We have selected quality works from new, exciting
voices that speak to us and published it alongside the works of more established
contributors. Our aim is more than just featuring and publishing the works of
some of our favorite artists—we hope to examine and reveal their individual
creative processes, as well celebrate their ingenuity and creativity, not just
their successes.
Our third issue
continues the focus on these core values, while exploring and challenging the
critical limits that currently define “art.” Among the features in The Parker
Issue is an overview of the art genre of Steampunk, including an interview
that details the designs and origins of this Victorian-centered genre, as well
as an art gallery that samples some of our favorite works.
Also among our special
features are all-new interviews with author Graham Joyce, chef Harold
Dieterle, musician Vienna Teng, and an excerpt from a new novel by
acclaimed author J.D. Tuccille.
The contributions from
established artists as well as the quality works from our new, talented
contributors continue to impress us. We look forward to the future of Paradigm,
eagerly anticipating the creative voices still waiting to be
heard.
